Masters In Teaching is Being Required in Many States

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Now that many people are going back to school, it seems that a masters in teaching seems to be one of the most popular degrees pursued. The fact of the matter is that more and more school districts are requiring that their teachers hold a Masters in Teaching to be able to stay at their school long term. There is a type of procedure, a type of leeway if you will, for those teachers who have their bachelors and have passed all of their certification requirements to be able to gain and maintain a job in a certain school district. For example, there are programs in Indiana that allow new teachers, new hires, up to five years to gain their Masters in Teaching. Simple teachers are just required to be enrolled in a Masters program while teaching in a specific school district.

What this basically means is that a teacher can teach in a school district just as long as they are enrolled in classes to achieve their Masters in Teaching. One can take only one class per semester and still be applicable in the program and still be applicable to be able to teach in the school district. This type of program ensures that their teachers are getting the most advanced education to ensure that the students, the children are fundamentally receiving the same type of education just at and earlier age. These types of programs are very progressive and can be looked at as giving the educational industry something to strive for. If all of our teachers in all of our school districts possessed the skill and knowledge necessary to earn a Masters in Teaching think of the progress that we would be making.

Not only would our teachers be more knowledgeable in their fields but our school systems would also have the knowledge necessary to go into specific fields so that children could start learning about specific fields of their interest at an early age. Not only would this allow our youth to explore more applicable professions to their associated interests but they would also be able to test out the waters in different industries decades before they would be joining them.

In essence this would put our youth at the forefront of our industries and enable them to be able to develop skills at such a young age so that when they do in fact become of age they would be able to dictate the way our industry would turn. Requiring teachers to be enrolled in a Masters in teaching is not only a great way to increase the knowledge and specialties of our teachers but it will also change the way our youth are going to learn. Gaining your Masters in Teaching does not have to take forever, as there are programs online and on campus’ nation wide that are designed to have you go through your training in the least amount of time as possible.
